Draft — not clinically reviewed

TUG · Functional mobility · v0.1.0 · effective 2026-08-17

Time taken to rise from a chair, walk three metres, turn, return and sit down. Interpreted against diagnosis-specific fall-risk cutoffs.

Instructions

  • The patient starts seated with their back against the chair and arms resting on the armrests.
  • On 'go', they rise, walk three metres at a comfortable and safe pace, turn, walk back and sit down.
  • Timing starts on the word 'go' and stops when the patient is seated with their back against the chair.
  • The patient may use their usual assistive device. Record which device was used.
  • Allow one practice trial before the timed trial.

Trial

Cutoffs for this test are diagnosis-specific. Selecting a population applies its cutoff.
