10 Meter Walk Test

Gait speed over a short measured distance, reported in metres per second at comfortable and optionally fast pace.

Instructions

  • Mark a walkway with acceleration and deceleration zones outside the timed distance.
  • Record which distance you timed: the full 10 metres, or the middle 6 metres.
  • Time up to three comfortable-pace trials; the result is their average.
  • Fast-pace trials are optional. Record them separately.
  • The patient may use their usual assistive device. Record which device was used.
